My Experience:
I've had this now for roughly 6 months. It is fast, quiet, cool (heat-wise), has a power switch, and looks good overall. I originally got it because I've never had an issue with my Samsung hard drives over many years and according to either Anandtech or Toms Hardware it is one of the fastest writing USB 3.0 external drives which is great as it's primary use for me is for backups.
My tests confirm it's speed. I moved 60GB of a normal mix of household files from disk-to-disk. It is only roughly 15% slower for backup/copying than copying to my 7200rpm Samsung internal drives.
Since I will primarily use this for backup I'm mostly interested in write speed and this was top of the charts in the article. In the article it showed a very popular external drive (easily found at office/electronics retail) doing only 1/3 the write speeds of this external drive, so they aren't necessarily "all the same pretty much".
As for noise it goes from very quiet close up to inaudible most of the time from a yardstick away (so basically anywhere under or next to the bottom of a desk where I put mine).
So far, highly recommended.Cons:
The backup software (not made by Samsung) it comes with, while a very pretty GUI, is rudimentary, too simple for many uses. Don't figure this software into your purchase decision.
You'll be happier with backup software from a reputable backup software vendor (retrospect, acronis, etc.) or even the free "syncback" recommended by MaximumPC (the old Boot magazine) probably. I use Syncback SE myself.
